REFLECTIONS

*Julie Axelrod.* In this photograph, Julie is accepting a phone call on
October 10, 1970, from President Richard Nixon, congratulating him on his
receipt that morning of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Considering that Julie received a Ph.D. when he was forty-three years old,
his contributions leading to a Nobel Prize at age 59 are all the more
impressive. My debt to Julie is inestimable, as my two years in his
laboratory (1963–1965) constitute the totality of my full-time research
training.
